The DAAD Information Center Dushanbe

Germany owes its prosperity, its innovative strength and its positive economic development especially to highly skilled professionals, an active research environment, international cooperation and scientific exchange.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a joint institution of German universities and the world's biggest funding organization for international cooperation in higher education. 236 universities and 124 student bodies are members of the DAAD. It is also the National Agency for EU mobility programs.

The budget of the DAAD has grown steadily in recent years and is funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union and other donors.
Since its founding in 1925, the DAAD has supported more than 1.5 million scholars in Germany and abroad. In 2012, more than 75,000 Germans and foreigners were supported around the globe.

More than 500 university professors volunteer in independent commissions to select the scholarship recipients and projects from the large amount of applications, taking only quality and performance criteria into account.

By awarding scholarships to individuals and through the support of cooperation at the institutional level, the DAAD has been building a scientific network that connects German education and research landscape with the scientific community around the world for almost 90 years.

The DAAD Information Center Dushanbe plays a central role within the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in cultural, scientific, educational and development policies.

In 1997, the DAAD posted the first DAAD-Lecturer in Dushanbe. The growing interest of the population prompted the opening of the DAAD Information Center in the capital in 2004. Since 2005, the DAAD has been supported by the DAAD Language Assistants, and since 2012, by volunteers of the international voluntary service of the Federal Foreign Office »kulturweit«.
